Overview
The Centre for African Village is not an advocacy but a premier centre for research, engagement and translation of African ideas, clarified and enhanced, for community transformation and sustainable development. It grounds itself in classical, modern and contemporary African identity to reconstruct durable values, thought and spirituality, contributing to global knowledge field-building through engaged oral and textual recovery of heritage and archaeology. The Centre is framed around the theoretical African traditions of Afrikology, Egyptology and Ethiopianology, with subsidiary comparative reading from classical Greek (Hellenism) and classical Western European thought, and draws inspiration from the Pan-African Movement, Black Consciousness, African Renaissance and Ubuntu, to discern durability, continuity and rupture. It is likened to a village because its setting and engagement are non-hierarchical, non-elitist, consensus- and community-based.
